Field Service Companion lets you create contacts in two ways: you can add them manually, or you can import them from your phone's address book.
Adding a Contact Manually
- Tap the Contacts tab.
- Tap the + button in the top-right corner.
- Enter the person's name. This is the only required field.
- Optionally, fill in the address, language, and any general notes about the person.
- Tap Add Contact.
The new contact will appear in your contact list and on your dashboard.
Tip: Adding an address allows the contact to appear on the Map view, which makes it easier to find them when you are in their area.
Importing Contacts From Your Phone
If you already have return visits saved in your phone's address book, you can import them into Field Service Companion without retyping everything.
- Tap the Contacts tab.
- Tap the + button, then choose Import from Contacts.
- The app will ask for permission to access your device contacts. Tap Allow.
- A list of your device contacts appears. Select the ones you want to import by tapping each name.
- Tap Import Selected.
What Gets Imported
The following fields are brought over from your device contacts:
- Name
- Phone number (the primary number, if more than one exists)
- Email address (the primary address, if more than one exists)
- Postal address
All other fields — such as language, status, and notes — are left blank for you to fill in. You can edit any contact after importing.
Duplicate Detection
If an imported name matches an existing contact in the app, you will be given three options:
- Skip — Do not import this contact.
- Merge — Fill in any empty fields on the existing contact using the device contact's information.
- Create New — Add the contact as a separate record.
Privacy
Your device contacts are read on your phone only. No contact information from your address book is ever sent to any server. The app accesses your address book only during the import process and does not keep a copy of it.
