Field Service Companion is not yet available on the App Store. While we are in pre-release, you can install the app on your iPhone or iPad using Apple's official beta-testing app, TestFlight.
This article walks you through joining the beta, installing the app, and choosing which version is on your device.
What You Need
- An iPhone or iPad on iOS 16 or later.
- Your Apple ID email — the same one you sign into on the device.
- An invitation from the Field Service Companion team. If you have not received one, email support@returnvisits.org and we will add you.
Step 1: Install TestFlight
TestFlight is published by Apple and is free.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the App Store.
- Search for TestFlight.
- Tap Get and install.
- Open TestFlight once and accept its terms.
You only need to do this the first time.
Step 2: Accept the Field Service Companion Invitation
When the team adds you as a tester, Apple sends an email with the subject "You've been invited to test Field Service Companion." The sender is noreply@email.apple.com. If you don't see it within 15 minutes, check your spam folder.
- Open the email on your iPhone or iPad — not on a Mac, PC, or Android device. The link only works on iOS.
- Tap View in TestFlight (or Start Testing).
- The TestFlight app opens. Tap Accept.
- Tap Install.
The Field Service Companion icon appears on your home screen.
If the email link doesn't open TestFlight: Open TestFlight manually, tap Redeem in the top right, and enter the 8-character code from your invitation email.
Step 3: Open the App and Sign In
Tap the new app icon, then sign in with Apple or Google. See Getting Started for what happens after sign-in.
Managing Your Version
TestFlight is unusual in that it gives you control over which version of the app you are running. Most of the time you will not need to use this, but it is good to know.
Automatic Updates (Recommended)
By default, TestFlight installs new versions of Field Service Companion as soon as they are released. We recommend leaving this on so you always have the latest fixes.
Turning Off Automatic Updates
If you prefer to choose when to update:
- Open TestFlight.
- Tap Field Service Companion.
- Toggle Automatic Updates off.
You will now see an Update button in TestFlight when a new version is ready.
Installing an Earlier Version
If a new version causes a problem for you, you can install an earlier one:
- Open TestFlight and tap Field Service Companion.
- Scroll down to Previous Builds.
- Tap a build to see when it was released, then tap Install.
Your contacts, visits, and settings stay on the device when you switch versions — they are not deleted.
Important: We recommend creating a backup before rolling back more than one version, just in case. See Backup and Restore for how.
When a Version Expires
Apple gives every TestFlight version a 90-day lifespan. TestFlight will notify you about a week before your version expires. When that happens:
- Open TestFlight.
- Tap Field Service Companion.
- Tap Update.
That replaces the expiring version with a fresh one. Your data is not affected.
If TestFlight says your version has expired and there is no Update button, please email support@returnvisits.org so we can confirm a newer version is available for you.
Leaving the Beta
If you want to stop testing:
- Open TestFlight → Field Service Companion.
- Scroll down and tap Stop Testing.
This removes Field Service Companion from your device and erases your local data. If you want to keep your contacts and visits, create a backup first (Backup and Restore) and save the file somewhere safe.
To return to the app later, you can install from the App Store once we launch publicly, or accept a fresh invitation from the team.
Privacy While Beta Testing
The TestFlight version is the same code as the App Store version. The privacy and encryption explained in Privacy and Your Data apply identically.
The Field Service Companion team sees only your Apple ID email (because we add you as a tester) and the version numbers you have installed. We do not see your contacts, visits, addresses, or any other personal content.
Need More Help?
If something does not work as expected during installation, please email support@returnvisits.org with a brief description of what you are seeing. A friend who is familiar with Field Service Companion may also be able to help.
